Base Salary
$191k - $249k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end technical architecture for AI products and platforms, including model selection, agent orchestration, data and retrieval architecture, and emerging AI technologies.
- Design and lead shared AI services, SDKs, reusable RAG pipelines, ingestion frameworks, UI components, and modular agentic backend capabilities.
- Establish standards for prompt versioning, model and retrieval evaluation, observability, logging, incident response, and production AI practices.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, design and code reviews, and mentoring to AI Engineers, ML Engineers, and Data Scientists.
- Lead cross-functional AI projects from concept to production, including requirements, project plans, delivery, reliability, and iteration based on feedback and metrics.
- Define evaluation frameworks and drive responsible AI governance covering safety, fairness, PII, compliance, and data residency.
- Lead performance, reliability, scalability, and cost optimization, including routing, distillation, caching, infrastructure sizing, build-versus-buy decisions, and service-level objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
- Seven years of experience in the job offered or as a Data Scientist, Software Engineer, ML Engineer, or an acceptable alternate occupation.
- Two years of experience in a senior or leadership role.
- Production experience with Python and TypeScript or JavaScript.
- Experience designing and operating distributed, cloud-native systems using Google Cloud Platform, Azure, or Amazon Web Services.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration such as Docker or Kubernetes and modern CI/CD practices.
- Experience with coding assistants such as Windsurf, Cursor, or Codex.
- Advanced experience architecting and shipping complex AI systems, LLM-based application design, RAG architectures, vector databases, retrieval optimization, AI observability, monitoring, and evaluation frameworks.
- Experience leading multi-engineer initiatives, mentoring others, and making data-driven speed, quality, and cost tradeoffs.
- Advanced context-engineering experience, including prompt design, RAG pipelines, grounding strategies, and multi-turn orchestration.
- Ability to build and maintain LLM evaluation harnesses with datasets, automated benchmarking, regression testing, and output-quality analysis.
- Hands-on experience with LLM fine-tuning approaches such as SFT, PEFT/LoRA, and distillation.
- Ability to prototype AI proofs of concept, translate ambiguous business problems into technical solutions, and apply scientific research and AI/ML papers.
- Ability to communicate AI concepts to executives and non-technical partners and present AI strategy and progress to leadership and cross-functional teams.
