Sr Backend Engineer, Identity & Access Management

Base Salary
$163k - $264k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the authentication surface end to end, including SSO, SCIM provisioning, login and session flows, MFA, and API key and token authentication.
- Build enterprise identity capabilities such as additional identity-provider integrations, multiple identity providers per account, and default MFA enforcement.
- Improve operability through SLOs, certificate-expiry and provisioning-failure monitoring, actionable alerting, runbooks, and sustainable on-call practices.
- Partner with Product Security on threat modeling, audit logging, and SOC 2 and FedRAMP compliance requirements.
- Set technical direction for identity engineering and mentor engineers through design reviews.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant experience in complex backend applications.
- Experience building or operating production authentication and identity systems.
- Demonstrated ability to safely change systems where correctness and availability are critical, including backward-compatible changes, staged rollouts, and safe cutovers.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Go, Rust, or Python.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure such as AWS and strong production ownership, including on-call.
- Bonus experience with SAML, OIDC/OAuth2, SCIM, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, OneLogin, or Ping.
- Bonus experience with MFA/WebAuthn, RBAC, authorization policy engines, or audit logging at multi-tenant scale.
- Bonus experience engineering under SOC 2 or FedRAMP compliance regimes.
