Responsibilities
- Own backend features within the Private Cloud Solutions domain from specification through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
- Design and develop backend services, application logic, APIs, workflows, integrations, and database-backed functionality.
- Integrate applications with Nutanix, VMware, and other virtualization platforms to support provisioning and lifecycle operations.
- Translate requirements into technical specifications and identify dependencies, failure scenarios, and unknowns early.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools daily while critically validating generated code and remaining accountable for production results.
- Write automated tests, validate failure scenarios and production changes, and provide evidence that changes are ready for release.
- Review code and technical changes for design, maintainability, security, and reliability risks.
- Work safely in legacy or unfamiliar codebases and make incremental improvements without unnecessary rewrites.
- Participate in on-call rotation, respond to incidents, contribute to root-cause analysis, and complete follow-up actions.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and coordinate dependencies across teams to prevent delivery blockers.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of backend software engineering and production systems experience.
- At least 5 years of Perl experience.
- At least 5 years of PostgreSQL or similar relational database experience.
- Strong understanding of backend architecture, application logic, APIs, data-driven systems, SQL, and relational data models.
- Experience building, testing, deploying, and supporting production software, including automated testing and production validation.
- Ability to understand unfamiliar code and troubleshoot issues across multiple parts of a production system.
- Experience participating in on-call rotations and responding to production incidents.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools in day-to-day development.
- Clear written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote, distributed, multi-time-zone team.
- Preferred experience with Nutanix, VMware, or other server virtualization platforms; virtualization or infrastructure APIs; private cloud or infrastructure provisioning systems; high-availability services; complex or legacy backend systems; and mentoring or backend code and design review.
