Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design and development of mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, and DB2.
- Drive complex batch and online processing implementation, performance optimization, and resource utilization improvements.
- Analyze and enhance existing COBOL and DB2 programs while supporting legacy modernization and data integrity.
- Create and maintain JCL job streams, including scheduling, conditional processing, error recovery, and capacity planning.
- Provide technical direction to project teams by clarifying requirements, decomposing work, and enforcing coding and quality practices.
- Translate cards and payments business requirements into technical specifications and data models.
- Define test scenarios, validate results, support defect triage, and improve production reliability.
- Manage production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement durable fixes.
- Recommend automation, tooling, observability, and process improvements.
- Document solution patterns, program flows, and operational procedures and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
Requirements
- 12–16 years of experience in mainframe application development and maintenance.
- Extensive hands-on COBOL programming experience, including modular code, data structures, and complex troubleshooting.
- Deep proficiency with JCL, including job configuration, conditional processing, dataset handling, and performance tuning.
- Strong DB2 knowledge covering table design, indexing, query optimization, and transaction management.
- Familiarity with cards and payments flows such as authorizations, settlements, and reconciliation.
- Strong requirement analysis, estimation, documentation, test planning, and defect-resolution skills.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and collaborate effectively with business and technology stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment and follow global communication practices.
- Knowledge of secure coding, data handling, governance, and audit requirements.
