Base Salary

$140k - $215k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design and operate on-premises virtualization environments focused on QEMU/KVM and OpenNebula.
  • Lead migration from VMware to a KVM-based Infrastructure as Code private cloud model.
  • Contribute to the TrueNAS-to-PowerFlex migration, including storage cluster design and operational handoff.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, Packer, and Ansible.
  • Operate and optimize distributed storage infrastructure and NFS, CIFS, and block storage protocols.
  • Monitor, maintain, and improve the resilience of critical R&D environments.
  • Investigate incidents, identify systemic issues, and drive resolution.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across a distributed team.
  • Review Infrastructure as Code, automation scripts, and configuration management code.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and potentially travel for team meetings.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in a large-scale production infrastructure environment.
  • Expertise with hypervisor platforms, especially QEMU/KVM; VMware or Xen experience is also applicable.
  • Experience with OpenNebula or similar private cloud platforms.
  • Proficiency in Python for automation, tooling, and infrastructure scripting.
  • Experience with Terraform, Packer, and Ansible.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud environments.
  • Experience operating large-scale distributed storage infrastructure and NFS and CIFS protocols.
  • Experience with Linux, Windows, and MacOS enterprise operating systems at scale.
  • Experience with Jenkins and GitLab CI.
  • Experience with Git-based repositories such as Bitbucket and GitLab.
  • Experience using AI technologies to improve decision-making, workflows, efficiency, and business outcomes.
  • Preferred experience with OpenStack, Dell PowerFlex, TrueNAS, bare metal provisioning, Canonical MAAS, OpenStack Ironic, PXE, Rancher, on-premises Kubernetes, Active Directory, DNS, SMB/CIFS, and WDS/MDT.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, leadership across distributed teams, attention to detail, sound judgment, and a security mindset.
