Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services and APIs for high-throughput, low-latency use cases.
- Own end-to-end service performance from request handling through database execution.
- Architect PostgreSQL schemas and data models for systems handling millions of records.
- Optimize queries through EXPLAIN ANALYZE, indexing strategies, and execution-plan analysis.
- Resolve slow queries, lock contention, deadlocks, connection exhaustion, and other production database issues.
- Manage PostgreSQL on AWS RDS and Aurora, including parameter tuning, Multi-AZ, read replicas, and failover.
- Plan and execute zero-downtime migrations and schema changes.
- Build observability across services and databases, including CloudWatch dashboards and alerts.
- Set up and manage streaming replication and failover mechanisms, and run failover drills to validate RTO/RPO.
- Debug production issues across application, database, and infrastructure layers.
- Use CloudWatch, Enhanced Monitoring, Secrets Manager, and S3 for monitoring, credentials, and backups.
- Define backend and database development practices and mentor engineers on API design, data modeling, and performance.
Requirements
- Strong experience building backend services with C#, Node.js, or Python.
- Solid hands-on production experience with PostgreSQL.
- Deep understanding of APIs, system design, and service architecture.
- Strong knowledge of query optimization, indexing, and execution plans.
- Experience with transactions, concurrency, and data consistency models.
- Familiarity with AWS, including RDS, Aurora, and CloudWatch.
- Ability to debug complex production issues end-to-end.
