Base Salary
$223k - $390k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own technical delivery from problem framing and architecture through implementation, rollout, monitoring, and iteration.
- Build and evolve ML and LLM-powered systems for merchant quality, understanding, integrity, relevance, and shopping discovery.
- Establish evaluation and measurement practices including golden datasets, human-in-the-loop review, regression testing, metric alignment, and launch criteria.
- Design reliable, scalable systems with guardrails, fallbacks, caching, observability, and attention to quality, cost, latency, and safety.
- Set technical direction, execution plans, engineering standards, and the ML operating model for the organization.
- Lead experimentation, A/B tests, holdouts, error analysis, and measurable improvements to user trust and shopping outcomes.
- Partner with cross-functional product, engineering, data science, design, trust, policy, legal, and ML platform teams.
- Mentor technical staff and support hiring, onboarding, and the growth of ML engineering capacity.
Requirements
- 8+ years of industry experience in ML engineering, applied ML, or software engineering, including meaningful Staff-level or equivalent individual-contributor experience.
- Experience leading 0-to-1 ML or LLM initiatives from ambiguous problem definition through production delivery with measurable impact.
- Track record shipping ML-powered systems in recommendation, ranking, retrieval, content understanding, ads relevance, commerce, or related domains.
- Hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications or adjacent GenAI systems in production, including judgment around reliability, failure modes, rollout safety, and tradeoffs.
- Deep experience with evaluation and measurement, including dataset strategy, labeling or review operations, metric design, regression testing, and connecting offline results to online outcomes.
- Strong systems design skills for data- and ML-intensive systems, including performance, reliability, scalability, and cost tradeoffs.
- Strong communication, influence, and cross-functional partnership skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
