Base Salary
$190k - $267k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define backend architecture for Reddit’s media creation products.
- Build and own scalable backend infrastructure and fast, maintainable APIs for video and image capture, editing, and publishing.
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to execute product and business strategy.
- Participate in the full development cycle, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
- Develop asynchronous media processing pipelines and scalable event-driven microservices.
- Improve developer workflows and standards, recommend best practices, and mentor junior engineers.
- Balance rapid product development with quality and reliability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 3 years of industry experience with large-scale distributed systems.
- At least 5 years of hands-on professional software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages.
- Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, and Thrift basics, including maintainable API design and implementation.
- Experience with distributed caching layers and large-scale distributed data storage systems such as Redis.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, scheduling, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Preferred: product thinking and experience translating complex workflows such as video editing timelines or AI generation tools into robust backend state management.
- Preferred: experience with background data fetching and strong data analysis skills using SQL.
- Preferred: hands-on expertise with FFMPEG, GPAC, or similar media frameworks.
