[TECH] Staff Backend Engineer [CONSUMER]
HelloFreshResponsibilities
- Lead technical architecture for unified AI Assistant, conversational search, personalized search, and proactive recommendation experiences.
- Own decisions for integrating LLM-powered capabilities into customer-facing systems while balancing quality, latency, and cost.
- Coordinate architecture across Shopping AI & Search, neighboring squads, and product and platform stakeholders.
- Define engineering practices for observability, graceful degradation, and testing of probabilistic AI systems.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, design discussions, and hands-on mentoring.
- Use and help standardize AI coding tools such as Claude and Cursor.
- Shape the technical roadmap by identifying architectural bottlenecks and proposing improvements.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience with deep expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
- Strong hands-on proficiency in Go or another modern backend language such as Java, Kotlin, Python, or TypeScript/Node.js, with willingness to work in Go.
- Production experience integrating LLMs or other AI services through APIs or SDKs.
- Daily hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar.
- Strong understanding of AWS, Kubernetes, and observability practices.
- Experience turning ambiguous product problems such as search relevance, recommendation quality, or conversational UX into technical roadmaps.
- Strong technical judgment, collaboration, communication, mentoring, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience with search or recommendation systems is preferred but not required.
