Responsibilities
- Own AI platform deliverables end to end, from problem definition through production launch, adoption, and continued operation.
- Design, build, and operate LLM gateways, retrieval systems, agent platforms, developer tooling, evaluation frameworks, and inline guardrails.
- Define success criteria, baseline metrics, SLOs, observability, failure handling, rollout strategies, and operational processes.
- Create clean interfaces, migration paths, documentation, paved paths, reusable patterns, and reference implementations for engineering teams.
- Build retrieval and agent systems with separate evaluation of retrieval quality, answer quality, agent behavior, reliability, latency, adoption, and cost.
- Design secure AI execution with least-privilege access, multi-tenant isolation, permissioning, auditability, and policy enforcement.
- Apply distributed-systems principles including consistency, idempotency, concurrency, resilience, and failure-mode analysis.
- Use coding agents and AI development tools while validating generated output through testing, review, and engineering judgment.
- Own production operations, including monitoring, debugging, on-call participation, incident response, and post-incident improvement.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, Security, Infrastructure, SRE, and Developer Experience teams to drive practical platform adoption.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience building or operating production retrieval systems, agent platforms, AI tooling, or other AI-enabled capabilities used by real users.
- Strong software engineering experience designing and operating distributed systems within an existing architecture.
- Ability to reason clearly about consistency, idempotency, concurrency, failure modes, multi-tenant isolation, security, and rollout risks.
- Practical understanding of AI system quality, retrieval evaluation, answer quality, release gates, agent reliability, and cost per request.
- Experience defining measurable baselines, observability, success criteria, and operational targets such as SLOs.
- Experience with secure AI execution patterns including least-privilege access, permissioning, auditability, and policy enforcement.
- Experience taking platform or product capabilities from definition to production while remaining accountable for reliability, adoption, and improvement.
- Experience with incident response, on-call operations, monitoring, debugging, and post-incident learning.
- Ability to work effectively with coding agents and AI development tools while independently verifying their output.
- Strong communication, collaboration, customer focus, and ability to make complex technical concepts accessible to engineering and product stakeholders.
- Preferred experience with LLM gateways, agent frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation systems, AI developer platforms, FinOps, application security, identity and access management, search quality, ranking, experimentation, relevance evaluation, OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, AI observability, multi-tenant infrastructure, internal developer platforms, SDKs, documentation, routing systems, API gateways, service orchestration, workflow engines, or platform control planes.
