Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve software powering automated news and insights at significant scale.
- Own projects from early ideas and technical design through implementation, testing, and production.
- Modernize the distributed content-generation platform to improve performance, flexibility, scalability, and maintainability.
- Build observability and data-governance tools that trace data from source to publication and help diagnose issues.
- Develop anomaly-detection systems while controlling false positives.
- Contribute to AI-powered tools for editors and reporters, emphasizing accuracy, evaluation, and user experience.
- Collaborate with Newsroom, Product, and Engineering teams to turn ambiguous needs into practical technical solutions.
- Improve system reliability, testing, operability, and engineering practices.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience developing production software in Python, Java, C++, or a similar programming language.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building reliable, maintainable, well-tested production systems.
- Experience designing, building, or evolving distributed systems with a focus on architectural trade-offs.
- Ability to break down problems, evaluate trade-offs, and develop practical solutions.
- Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Sense of ownership and curiosity about the systems being developed.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience with high-throughput event-driven systems and event-driven architectures or messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Preferred experience with observability, data lineage, data governance, LLM applications, TypeScript, React, or other frontend technologies.
