Responsibilities
- Design and ship moderate-to-complex backend features with minimal guidance.
- Influence technical direction and make architectural trade-offs among modular-monolith code, shared components, and independently operated services.
- Define and improve backend standards for maintainability, testing, APIs, security, performance, availability, and operational readiness.
- Diagnose and prevent performance and reliability issues at scale and participate in incident response.
- Mentor associate and intermediate engineers, remove technical blockers, and contribute through code and design reviews.
- Use and evaluate AI in production engineering workflows and coach others on responsible use.
- Partner with product managers and designers to shape requirements and technical decisions.
Requirements
- Strong command of backend architecture, APIs, data systems, and performance tuning in complex product or service environments.
- Proficiency in modern backend languages and deep understanding of systems programming.
- Experience designing or evolving modular backend boundaries, bounded contexts, and migration-safe architectures.
- Ability to lead through technical influence, judgment, and clear written communication.
- Proven experience building or operating agentic systems in production, including loops, tool use, and reliable error-handling strategies.
- Helpful experience with high-throughput distributed systems, concurrency, profiling, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, schema evolution, partitioning, large-scale modular monoliths, event-driven systems, public technical communication, open-source maintenance, or developer-focused SaaS.
