Responsibilities
- Develop and support cloud-native storage for Rakuten Symphony’s platform.
- Design, implement, and maintain high-performance, scalable object storage systems.
- Program primarily in C/C++, with Python and shell scripting as needed.
- Develop software in both kernel and user space and work with multithreaded concurrent systems.
- Benchmark performance, identify bottlenecks, and troubleshoot distributed storage software.
- Create design documents, feature specifications, bug updates, work plans, and milestone estimates.
- Collaborate in design and code reviews and work with QA on feature test plans.
- Transfer knowledge about new features to the Support team.
- Perform root-cause analysis and apply findings to process improvement.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of systems software development experience.
- At least 1 year of experience developing enterprise-quality filesystem or storage software.
- Strong C/C++ programming skills.
- Experience with Python, shell scripting, and Linux.
- Ability to program in kernel and user space.
- Understanding of multithreading, race conditions, concurrent systems, on-disk and in-memory data structures, algorithms, and performance.
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- Preferred experience with hyperconverged or distributed storage systems for enterprise and high-performance enterprise environments.
- Preferred experience debugging distributed software stacks scaling across thousands of nodes, including data corruption issues.
- Preferred experience with erasure coding, RAID, compute/storage/network virtualization, fault tolerance, and I/O path performance engineering.
- Basic understanding of HTTP, REST, Amazon S3, key/value stores, and SQL.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work successfully as part of a team.
- Fluent English proficiency is listed as the overall language requirement.
