Base Salary
$70k - $170k/yr
Responsibilities
- Identify and eliminate backend performance bottlenecks by profiling PHP applications and analyzing MySQL/MariaDB query performance.
- Build and improve performance observability through dashboards and automated detection.
- Partner with product and platform engineers to review code and architecture for performance improvements.
- Document best practices and contribute to internal guidelines for PHP and database performance.
- Proactively search for and resolve performance issues.
- Conduct deep dives on individual sites to address customer performance issues.
Requirements
- Deep hands-on experience with PHP performance, including profiling applications and analyzing memory usage.
- Strong understanding of caching layers and strategies, particularly with Memcached.
- Experience with performance work at scale, serving millions of requests.
- Ability to instrument, measure, and verify performance improvements using profiling tools and dashboards.
- Excellent written communication skills for a distributed, async-first company.
- Self-direction and ownership in identifying and prioritizing performance work.
- Bonus points for experience with WordPress and WooCommerce in high-traffic environments.
