Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the BIOS/UEFI portfolio supporting the Azure fleet.
- Drive strategic improvements to BIOS/UEFI security, including vulnerability remediation and firmware currency.
- Oversee BIOS/UEFI development, requirements compliance, validation, schedules, and rollout plans for new hardware SKUs.
- Implement requirements that improve hardware performance, telemetry, and diagnostics.
- Manage requirements and feature delivery through planning, backlogs, sprints, and milestones.
- Define vendor-agnostic requirements and collaborate with silicon vendors, ODMs, OEMs, architects, technical program managers, and engineering leaders.
- Advance BIOS/UEFI standardization efforts within Microsoft and across the silicon industry.
Requirements
- Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field plus 3+ years of technical engineering experience; or a master’s degree plus 6+ years; or a bachelor’s degree plus 8+ years; or equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
- Preferred: 12+ years of experience, with the majority as a technical lead or similar.
- Proficiency developing low-level firmware or software for hardware platforms, including firmware, BIOS, UEFI, EDK2, and BMC.
- Experience leading complex cross-functional projects and managing product lifecycles from inception through release.
- Experience with firmware/software development, testing strategies, requirements definition, CPU/SoC product development, or data center hardware/software projects.
- Preferred experience with more than 10 years of software development using languages such as C, C++, C#, or Python.
- Strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem-solving, communication, prioritization, and independent execution skills.
Benefits
- The typical U.S. base pay range is USD $142,800-$274,800 per year; a separate range applies to the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
- The Microsoft Cloud Background Check is required upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
