Responsibilities
- Design and implement embedded C++ software for electric-powered, fly-by-wire aircraft.
- Contribute to architecture, conceptual system design, implementation, and requirements for embedded aircraft systems.
- Collaborate with systems engineers and hardware designers to author software requirements and integrate complex systems.
- Develop software for communications and networking, motor inverters, flight-critical subsystems, and other aircraft projects.
- Write safe, robust, testable code and participate in all facets of software design and development.
- Support DO-178C processes, requirements authoring, verification, and real-time embedded software development.
Requirements
- University degree in computer science, computer engineering, robotics, mechatronics, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or another STEM field and 7+ years of industry experience.
- An advanced degree and 5+ years of industry experience may also be considered.
- Expert knowledge of C++ and object-oriented programming methodology.
- Demonstrated understanding of hardware from an embedded software engineer’s perspective.
- Experience with modern integrated development environments, debuggers, and test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and voltmeters.
- Understanding of modern microcontroller and microprocessor architectures, including ARM Cortex-M0, Cortex-M3, Cortex-M4, Cortex-A8, Cortex-A9, and related embedded processors.
- Knowledge of multilayered system architectures and communication protocols including MDIO, I2C, SPI, and UART.
- Desired qualifications include exposure to modern software engineering techniques, DO-178C processes, requirements authoring and verification, and real-time operating systems.
- Ability to work onsite in Santa Cruz, California, four days per week.

- Target base pay is $157,800–$245,400 per year.
