Research Engineer — Training Performance & ML Compilation (Torch Compile) - Seed Infra
ByteDanceResponsibilities
- Optimize large-scale foundation-model training through compiler-level graph optimization, operator fusion, and kernel generation.
- Develop and extend PyTorch compilation capabilities using technologies such as FX, Dynamo, and Inductor.
- Design and optimize high-performance GPU kernels for training workloads.
- Profile and analyze large-scale training jobs, identify bottlenecks, and resolve them with research and infrastructure teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python, with solid foundations in algorithms, data structures, and systems programming.
- Hands-on experience optimizing performance for deep-learning training workloads.
- Hands-on experience writing and optimizing GPU kernels, such as CUDA or Triton.
- Experience using, debugging, or extending Inductor or FX; developing Triton kernels; or working with PyTorch computation graphs.
- Preferred: experience with TorchDynamo, bytecode-level program transformation, Triton compiler internals, MLIR, LLVM, or other ML compiler backends.
- Preferred: contributions to open-source projects such as PyTorch, Triton, or FlashAttention.
- Preferred: publications in venues such as MLSys, OSDI, or ASPLOS.
