Senior Software Engineer, Android Accessibility

Responsibilities
- Drive accessibility improvements for Slack Kit Compose components, including audits, fixes, and snapshot and automated accessibility testing.
- Diagnose TalkBack and Android framework issues and create reusable utilities for other teams.
- Own Android accessibility test suites and infrastructure, including custom tooling and third-party integrations for automated UI-test coverage.
- Advise feature teams on labeling, focus order, state announcements, and audible feedback for interactive actions.
- Lead VPAT compliance efforts by triaging tickets, organizing recurring issues into epics, and documenting Slack’s compliance posture.
- Plan and run accessibility testing for major features and coordinate regression testing with QA vendors.
- Represent Android in cross-platform mobile accessibility planning with iOS, design systems, and feature teams.
- Mentor Android engineers, run onboarding sessions, and share accessibility knowledge through documentation, newsletters, and external talks.
Requirements
- 5+ years of Android engineering experience in a team environment, including Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
- Hands-on expertise with Android accessibility APIs and TalkBack behavior.
- Experience building or maintaining accessibility testing infrastructure.
- Familiarity with accessibility compliance frameworks such as WCAG and VPAT, including end-to-end compliance work.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with design systems, iOS, and feature teams.
- Experience with design systems or component libraries and accessibility standards is nice to have.
- Familiarity with third-party accessibility auditing tools or custom static-analysis/scanning tools is nice to have.
- Public speaking or writing on accessibility topics is nice to have.
- Experience using Slack and interest in improving it are nice to have.
