Staff Software Engineer, Modeling Platform

Base Salary
$181k - $250k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction, architecture, and multi-year strategy of the Modeling Platform framework and SDK layer.
- Evolve backend APIs, SDKs, interfaces, and agentic/tool-based interfaces into a self-service framework for internal product teams.
- Partner with the SmartGrid team on the underlying DAG-based computation engine and broader Modeling Platform architecture.
- Make platform-level decisions involving framework boundaries, build versus buy, refactoring, flexibility, and opinionated product velocity.
- Drive technical alignment across consuming teams and collaborate with Product, Design, EM, and senior EPD leadership.
- Remain hands-on as a backend-primary full-stack engineer building APIs, SDKs, and extensible frontend components.
- Coach and develop engineers toward senior and staff-level technical impact and establish strong design and review standards.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with progression into staff-level technical leadership.
- Strong Python fundamentals and production experience with Django or a similar Python web framework.
- Experience owning a platform or framework layer used by multiple internal engineering teams.
- Strong backend engineering experience plus hands-on development of frontend components consumed and extended by other teams.
- A track record of setting and delivering multi-year technical strategy for a platform or major system.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, and developing engineers toward senior and staff-level impact.
- Bonus experience includes Go; AI-agent interfaces such as tool-use schemas, MCP-style protocols, and structured function calling; Apache Arrow, Parquet, ClickHouse, or DuckDB; DAG-based computation; SDKs or self-service developer platforms; B2B SaaS growth; or sales performance and incentive compensation domains.
