Responsibilities

  • Own multiple Python backend services end to end, including architecture, REST APIs, databases, deployment, and operation.
  • Design, build, and debug asynchronous and concurrent systems involving task queues, background workers, and event-driven flows.
  • Implement reliable failure handling through retries, ordering, idempotency, race-condition management, and conflict resolution.
  • Develop and maintain third-party API integrations, including rate limiting, cost control, and ongoing support.
  • Profile and optimize endpoints, database queries, and service performance as traffic and data grow.
  • Use AI coding assistants such as Cursor and Claude Code while reviewing generated output for correctness, security, and latency.
  • Own observability dashboards, monitoring, logging, alerting, SLA tracking, and production on-call response.
  • Lead QA partnership and test strategy across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Triage customer escalations and provide post-launch service support.
  • Translate product requirements into technical specifications and communicate performance, cost, and latency trade-offs.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Frontend, QA, and Support on API contracts, payloads, usability, and documentation.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, lead technical standards, and drive architectural and infrastructure improvements.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional backend experience, including experience at a senior or staff level; 10+ years preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python with strong experience in Django and/or FastAPI.
  • Hands-on experience with asynchronous and concurrent Python, including asyncio and Celery or similar task queues.
  • Experience with offline-first or unreliable-network synchronization, optimistic updates, queue-and-replay workflows, and conflict resolution.
  • Hands-on SQL database experience, including PostgreSQL schema design and query optimization.
  • Experience with at least one message broker or streaming platform such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, including ordering, idempotency, and retry semantics.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, system design, microservices, REST APIs, WebSockets, and networking.
  • Experience writing automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests using tools such as pytest, tox, and Playwright.
  • Experience with Agile and/or Scrum environments, CI/CD pipelines, and trunk-based development.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP and with monitoring, logging, alerting, SLAs, and on-call readiness.
  • Experience leading projects, mentoring engineers, setting technical standards, and presenting technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Advanced English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Preferred experience with Kubernetes, NoSQL databases, cloud-native patterns, Java, Spring, LLM APIs, RAG systems, AI integrations, and infrastructure or external API cost optimization.

Benefits

  • Remote-first, 100% distributed work environment.
  • Monthly $50 gym and wellness stipend.
  • Flexible paid time off and six weeks of paid paternity leave.
  • Company-provided technology equipment and home-office support as needed.
