Responsibilities
- Own CPE’s domain architecture, target technical architecture, and technical strategy.
- Own operational excellence, including hands-on resolution and mitigation of complex production incidents and corrective actions.
- Create prototypes, reference implementations, and simple code that establish technical patterns and high engineering standards.
- Influence delivery teams and Staff and Senior Staff Engineers on technical tradeoffs.
- Set engineering best practices and standards for operational excellence, security, and quality.
- Coach and mentor Senior Staff Engineers.
- Serve as part of the domain’s senior software escalation tier rather than the primary on-call rotation.
- Establish standards for where AI-assisted software development is and is not used across the SDLC.
Requirements
- Expert experience building and designing scalable, fault-tolerant, highly available systems under extreme peak loads.
- Experience influencing technical direction across engineering organizations of more than 200 people.
- Expert understanding of engineering design patterns and architectural approaches.
- Deep, current, hands-on experience with AI-assisted software development, including agentic coding, spec-driven workflows, tooling, review, testing, and verification.
- Track record of moving an engineering organization from AI experimentation to measurable improvements in software development, while accounting for security, auditability, and regulated-environment data boundaries.
- Experience making pragmatic short-term and long-term technical tradeoffs.
- Ability to build trust and shared understanding with teams and engineers who do not report to you.
- Deep experience with modern backend languages, including functional and object-oriented programming and Java.
- Demonstrated ability to improve operational excellence and engineering practices through influence and collaboration.
