Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Serve as technical lead and design authority, setting technical direction, mentoring engineers, and driving software quality and delivery.
- Establish and operationalize agentic AI-assisted development workflows, agent and prompt patterns, custom tooling, and guardrails.
- Coach engineers through pairing, enablement sessions, code reviews, and reusable AI development playbooks.
- Evaluate and shepherd AI tooling through security approval for restricted, secure, or air-gapped environments, including on-premises and self-hosted model options.
- Develop production C++ and Python software in Linux for counter-UAS and missile-defense systems.
- Use Jira and GitLab within the software lifecycle, including peer reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD automation.
- Debug and troubleshoot software in Hardware-in-the-Loop and Software-in-the-loop environments.
- Establish coding and engineering standards and drive standardized, reusable, documented solutions.
- Collaborate with systems, electrical, test, cybersecurity, program leadership, and customers.
- Progress toward a people-management role as the team scales.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline plus 12+ years of professional software development experience; alternatives include a master’s degree plus 10 years or a PhD plus 7 years.
- Recent, substantial hands-on experience building production software with current-generation agentic AI coding assistants and AI-assisted development workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor engineers and lead a software team as a technical lead.
- Strong current proficiency in C++ and Python.
- Experience across the full software lifecycle, including peer reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD.
- Experience working in an Agile or SAFe environment, or equivalent.
- Experience with Jira and GitLab, or equivalent tools.
- Experience developing in a Linux environment.
- Ability to adapt AI-assisted development workflows to security-constrained, restricted, or disconnected environments.
- Currently living in Huntsville, Alabama, or willing to relocate.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain an interim and final Secret security clearance.
- Preferred experience includes Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Copilot Workspace, Windsurf, Aider, and Model Context Protocol workflows.
- Preferred experience includes AI enablement assets, productivity measurement, self-hosted or on-premises language models, RAG over codebases, AI governance, and deployment in disconnected environments.
- Counter-UAS, missile-defense, mission-system, real-time or embedded C++, HWIL, Buildroot, VMware, UDP/TCP networking, Wireshark, CI/CD pipeline maintenance, or DoD acquisition experience is preferred.
