Responsibilities
- Lead backend development by building and maintaining server-side logic.
- Own services end to end, including deployment, production operations, and service health.
- Maintain and improve production environments with Cloud Engineering, including monitoring and alerting.
- Participate in on-call and off-hours support, triaging incidents, resolving production issues, and investigating bug reports.
- Rotate into support work involving releases, dependency updates, and stakeholder requests.
- Design APIs and data contracts in partnership with frontend and cross-functional teams.
- Participate in code reviews and security and privacy reviews.
- Apply AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully while maintaining engineering judgment.
Requirements
- 4+ years of software development experience focused on backend technologies.
- Strong professional experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust for backend services.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL query optimization, relational schema design, and migrations using a query builder such as Knex.
- Hands-on DevOps experience with Google Cloud Platform and Docker-based build and deployment pipelines.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana.
- Experience owning and operating services in production, including on-call or off-hours support.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and driving improvements in code quality, testing, and engineering processes.
- Preferred experience with performance or load testing, Terraform, Kubernetes, open-source contributions or personal engineering projects, and Django.
