Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and deliver large-scale parser engines, compiler-like components, and language analysis pipelines.
- Drive architecture and technical direction for grammar design, parsing frameworks, AST construction, semantic analysis, and language extensibility.
- Develop high-performance, portable C++ and Qt system components across Windows and Linux.
- Lead debugging, root-cause analysis, refactoring, and remediation for parsing errors, grammar ambiguities, performance problems, and production issues.
- Design and evolve parsers, interpreters, static analysis tools, and grammar-driven systems for languages including JCL, COBOL, and SQL.
- Integrate parsing and metadata extraction with databases, data lineage systems, and analysis platforms.
- Mentor engineers, conduct technical reviews, document parser architectures and grammars, and promote best practices.
- Lead long-term initiatives such as adding programming-language support, modernizing legacy systems, and porting Windows applications to Linux.
- Use AI code assistants responsibly for code generation, refactoring, testing, documentation, and development acceleration.
- Containerize parser engines and language-processing services using Docker.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering complex, high-impact systems.
- Expert-level C++ proficiency, including object-oriented design, memory management, and performance optimization.
- Strong compiler fundamentals covering lexical analysis, LL/LR parsing, AST design, and semantic processing.
- Hands-on experience designing, building, or extending parsers, interpreters, or static analysis tools.
- Experience with grammar and parser tooling such as ANTLR, yacc/bison, JavaCC, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, distributed systems, RDBMS concepts, and SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
- Extensive experience developing enterprise applications, frameworks, or platform components.
- Strong proficiency in Windows and Linux, including system-level debugging, OS internals, filesystems, threading models, and debugging tools.
- Advanced expertise in Qt Core and low-level modules, with demonstrated ability to reduce platform-specific code and improve portability.
- Experience leading large-scale parsing, grammar-driven, or code-analysis initiatives and mentoring engineers.
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain parsing and compiler concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience with Docker image creation, multi-stage builds, debugging containerized applications, and image optimization is required.
- Experience with IBM i/AS400 or IBM z architectures and porting Windows applications to Linux is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with GitHub Copilot or Microsoft Copilot and responsible validation of AI-generated code is required or expected.
