Base Salary
$295k - $345k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the multi-year architectural vision for Roblox’s core data platforms.
- Translate company strategy into production-grade infrastructure blueprints spanning Kafka, Flink, Spark, Trino, Druid, Airflow, and Data Catalog systems.
- Align technical roadmaps with executive leadership, platform governance, data science, and product engineering teams.
- Optimize distributed-engine internals, query planning, state management, serialization, memory usage, throughput, and cost efficiency.
- Integrate AI/ML and large language model capabilities for self-serve data discovery, automated metadata generation, and autonomous platform interactions.
- Set organization-wide standards for code quality, architecture, and system robustness.
- Mentor staff, senior, and mid-level engineers and promote post-incident analysis and chaos-engineering validation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree equivalent in computer science or sufficient equivalent experience.
- At least 8 years of experience building, designing, testing, and maintaining production-grade large-scale distributed systems.
- Expertise building foundational data infrastructure with technologies such as Kafka, Flink, Spark, Trino, Druid, Hive, Airflow, or Data Catalog and metadata systems.
- Demonstrated experience architecting, writing, and deploying core data-platform and distributed-systems code from the ground up at hyperscale.
- Strong proficiency in Java, Go, or Scala and experience writing clean, high-performance backend code.
- Expertise managing, scaling, and troubleshooting stateful and stateless multi-cluster data infrastructure on Kubernetes within AWS or GCP.
- Experience influencing technical direction across a large engineering organization and leading complex, multi-quarter architectural initiatives.
- Strong ownership and ability to define requirements, unblock dependencies, coordinate engineers, and guide projects through production stability.
- Open-source contributions in the data-infrastructure ecosystem are preferred.
- Experience operating infrastructure at consumer-internet scale with more than 100 million users is preferred.
