Base Salary

$164k - $259k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end architecture and delivery of backend systems connecting lending products with shared platforms and core financial systems.
  • Drive complex cross-team initiatives from problem definition through architecture, implementation, rollout, and iteration.
  • Define and evolve APIs, integration patterns, and data contracts.
  • Design for scale, resiliency, observability, failure handling, retries, reconciliation, auditability, and edge cases.
  • Turn one-off product needs into reusable platform capabilities across Lending.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Risk, Data Science, Analytics, Finance, and Operations.
  • Influence ownership, collaboration, technical decision-making, and product-platform integration across teams.
  • Participate in on-call and incident response and convert production lessons into lasting improvements.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, technical feedback, and hands-on partnership.
  • Contribute to roadmap and strategy discussions involving platform investments and product outcomes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building and operating production software at scale, with end-to-end backend ownership.
  • Strong backend engineering fundamentals, ideally with Ruby on Rails or a comparable framework, plus production API and distributed-systems experience.
  • Experience with transactional databases, asynchronous processing, caching, and large-scale application architecture.
  • Strong system-design judgment across correctness, scalability, resiliency, speed, and maintainability.
  • Experience leading complex projects spanning multiple teams, systems, or business workflows.
  • Experience in fintech, lending, banking, payments, risk, or other high-integrity domains.
  • Ability to operate with high ownership and ambiguity, create clarity, drive alignment, and move work forward.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering and cross-functional teams.
  • Product mindset and ability to connect technical decisions to member experience and business outcomes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and improving design quality, testing, operational excellence, and engineering ownership.
  • Nice-to-have experience with underwriting, eligibility, repayments, collections, servicing, decisioning, capital markets, reconciliations, ledgering, accounting interfaces, partner or bank integrations, experimentation, analytics, internal tooling, or shared platform capabilities.
