Responsibilities
- Scale the OLAP platform to support additional domains and consumers while balancing performance and cost.
- Ingest business events and index them into OpenSearch for analytical data access and search.
- Expose platform data through a federated GraphQL layer for consumer engineering teams.
- Design platform APIs and solutions that provide good ergonomics for internal engineering users.
- Contribute to data pipelines, event-driven architectures, search systems, and REST API design.
- Collaborate with teams across Toast to support restaurant-critical latency and freshness.
Requirements
- Strong backend engineering skills in Kotlin, Java, or another object-oriented language, with strong testing and code-quality practices.
- Experience working with large datasets where correctness, freshness, and query performance are important.
- Experience with document-based or columnar data stores such as BigTable or DynamoDB.
- Interest in search engineering, including ranking algorithms, semantic search, or natural language search.
- Ability to collaborate across team boundaries, understand consumer needs, and deliver clean platform solutions.
- Ability to use AI tooling as part of the engineering workflow.
