Base Salary
$113k - $338k/yr
Responsibilities
- Investigate applied research problems in agent memory, knowledge persistence, inference routing, autonomy, evaluation, reliability, context management, and retrieval architectures.
- Design and execute production-relevant benchmarks covering tool use, structured output, reasoning, instruction following, and failure recovery.
- Translate research findings into production-grade Python services, Node.js/TypeScript SDK modules, and platform-integrated components.
- Build pluggable interfaces and backends for memory stores, retrieval layers, and routing modules.
- Prototype, validate, instrument, and integrate platform capabilities with tracing, cost accounting, latency metrics, error handling, documentation, and test coverage.
- Contribute to technical reports, publications, conference submissions, engineering proposals, and client-facing discussions.
- Collaborate with platform engineers, product managers, enterprise architects, and clients, and mentor junior engineers and researchers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or the stated equivalent work-experience alternatives.
- At least 5 years of experience with Python and/or Node.js/TypeScript building production backend services, research prototypes, or AI/ML systems.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with AI or ML systems, including areas such as large language models, agent frameworks, inference serving, or retrieval and memory architectures.
- Preferred: 6+ years of engineering experience spanning research and production, with demonstrated ability to ship research into running systems.
- Preferred: deep applied AI systems research experience and 3+ years of applied research translating findings into platform-integrated or published artifacts.
- Preferred: experience with async Python, FastAPI, asyncio, containerization, Kubernetes, vector and relational databases, and distributed tracing instrumentation such as OpenTelemetry.
- Preferred: familiarity with modern AI agent frameworks and agent communication protocols.
- Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Applicants must be local to or willing to relocate to the Mountain View, California area.
