Responsibilities
- Design and evolve a scalable architecture for the agent layer.
- Evaluate and implement technologies to improve system performance.
- Review existing architecture, lead architectural discussions, and drive technical decisions.
- Provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and promote engineering best practices.
- Gather stakeholder requirements and collaborate with product management on feature prioritization.
- Coordinate work across teams, identify project risks, and adjust plans as priorities change.
- Own technical direction for the Agent Framework and support its evolution for the Streams model.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a technical lead or principal engineer on an agent, daemon, or systems-level software project at scale.
- Experience managing distributed deployments, versioning, and backward compatibility.
- Deep knowledge of observability data collection, including metrics, logs, traces, and related protocols.
- Strong background in Go.
- Experience designing management and control planes for distributed software, particularly protocol-driven approaches such as OpAMP.
- Track record of leading large, multi-team technical initiatives from ambiguous design through shipped software.
- Ability to work across projects, codebases, and teams in response to changing business priorities.
- Ability to document technical decisions, build stakeholder consensus, and maintain architectural direction.
- Strong written communication skills, including producing trusted design documents and ADRs.
- Preferred experience with Elastic Agent, Fleet, Beats, or OpenTelemetry Collector internals.
- Preferred experience with OpenTelemetry Collector configuration, OTLP transport, or upstream contributions.
- Preferred experience with cross-platform testing and developer productivity across Linux, Windows, macOS, containers, and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of pipeline execution models and processing languages such as Streamlang, Logstash, or Fluent.
- Experience with CloudFormation, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code tooling for agent deployment.
- Open-source contributions in the observability or agent ecosystem are a plus.
