Responsibilities
- Design, train, and deploy reinforcement-learning controllers for autonomous robots in complex real-world environments.
- Own the full workflow from simulation and policy validation to deployment on physical robotic hardware.
- Fuse vision and other sensory inputs to enable robust and adaptive robot control.
- Combine learned approaches with robot dynamics, kinematics, PID, model predictive control, and trajectory optimization.
- Build and use physics-based simulators to train and validate policies.
- Write clean software in Python, Rust, or modern C++ and deploy AI systems to production.
- Test, monitor, and iterate on deployed AI software and robotic policies.
- Re-implement and extend state-of-the-art research and communicate findings internally and externally.
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Robotics, Machine Learning, Control Engineering, or a closely related field, with a strong focus on reinforcement learning and robot control.
- Hands-on experience training and deploying reinforcement-learning controllers on real robotic hardware, not only in simulation.
- Deep familiarity with continuous-control reinforcement learning, including PPO, SAC, TD3, model-based RL, hierarchical RL, sim-to-real transfer, domain randomization, and curriculum learning.
- Solid understanding of robot dynamics, kinematics, and classical control theory.
- Proficiency with physics-based robotics simulators such as MuJoCo, Isaac Gym, Isaac Lab, PyBullet, or Gazebo.
- Strong software engineering skills in Python, Rust, or modern C++, including production deployment, testing, QA, and monitoring.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to present research findings clearly.
- Preferred: PhD and top-tier publications in venues such as CoRL, ICRA, NeurIPS, ICLR, IROS, or RSS.
- Preferred: experience with highly dynamic robotic systems, vision-based perception, low-level motor-control interfaces, real-time embedded constraints, online adaptation, meta-learning, and multimodal sensor fusion.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and VSOP options.
- Relocation support of up to €2,500 and four weeks of temporary accommodation.
- Annual learning allowance of €500/£450.
