Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and evolution of core infrastructure as traffic, data volume, and workload complexity grow.
- Build capacity models, run load and stress tests, diagnose bottlenecks, and improve throughput, latency, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Design resilient AWS account, IAM, networking, multi-availability-zone, and multi-region architectures.
- Build and operate the Kubernetes platform, including lifecycle automation, workload isolation, resource allocation, autoscaling, upgrades, and deployment reliability.
- Scale and optimize Aurora RDS for MySQL and Postgres, including queries, indexes, connections, replication, failover, migrations, and recovery.
- Define service-level objectives and error budgets and implement failure isolation, backpressure, load shedding, and safe retry behavior.
- Participate in on-call rotations, lead technical recovery during major incidents, and implement postmortem corrective actions.
- Design, test, and document disaster recovery, backup, restore, and failover mechanisms against recovery objectives.
- Build infrastructure-as-code, operational automation, observability, safe migrations, cost-efficiency improvements, and AI-assisted incident and runbook tooling.
- Write architecture proposals, evaluate technologies through prototypes and benchmarks, review shared-infrastructure changes, and collaborate across engineering, Security, and Compliance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field is required.
- At least 12 years of experience across infrastructure, platform, site reliability, software development, or related engineering disciplines.
- Deep production expertise with AWS, including compute, IAM, multi-account architectures, networking, VPC design, and private connectivity.
- Deep production expertise with Kubernetes, including cluster lifecycle, scheduling, resource management, autoscaling, networking, and troubleshooting; EKS experience is preferred.
- Deep expertise with RDS/Aurora using MySQL and/or Postgres, including query performance, indexing, connection management, replication, high availability, failover, and backup recovery.
- Proven experience personally delivering infrastructure scaling improvements with measurable capacity, latency, reliability, or cost gains.
- Strong coding and automation skills using Golang, Python, or similar languages, plus Terraform or equivalent infrastructure-as-code experience.
- Strong fundamentals in Linux, networking, DNS, TLS, storage, concurrency, and distributed-system failure modes.
- Experience operating 24/7 high-availability platforms, responding to incidents, and completing postmortem remediation.
- Experience with disaster recovery testing, observability, load testing, capacity planning, and safe CI/CD practices.
- Active use of AI tooling in engineering or operations with the ability to verify generated code, recommendations, and operational actions.
- Ability to resolve ambiguous, system-wide technical problems and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
- Preferred qualifications include fintech, payments, or banking experience; multi-region architectures; chaos and failure testing; Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or Tempo; internal platform and self-service tooling; progressive delivery; and AI-assisted incident automation.
Benefits
- Monthly compensation is listed at $12,500–$20,800 USD based on location and experience.
- Remote, full-time position.
- Work culture includes colleagues with interests such as music, yoga, cycling, cooking, golf, dogs, and rock climbing.
