Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of highly available, resilient, cost-efficient distributed systems serving millions of users.
- Architect systems handling 1M+ requests per second with sub-50ms latency, 99.99% availability, and strong consistency.
- Drive technical strategy for platform evolution, microservices architecture, API design, and integration abstractions.
- Build developer tools, SDKs, and platform abstractions that enable ML and product teams to iterate rapidly.
- Lead the transition to dual-rail resiliency for critical payment and pricing flows.
- Partner with Product, Data Science, Ops, directors, vice presidents, and external partners on scalable platform solutions.
- Lead architecture reviews, reduce systemic technical debt, and improve observability and incident response.
- Establish organizational standards for testing, monitoring, alerting, frameworks, and coding practices.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience in backend development and large-scale distributed systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Expert-level proficiency in Go, Java, or Python.
- Experience building real-time marketplace platforms requiring high consistency and global reliability.
- Experience leading organization-wide development, technical strategy, and adoption of frameworks and coding best practices.
- Experience identifying architectural risks and opportunities in advance and addressing them with leadership.
- Track record of leading large-scale engineering projects from inception and requirements gathering through global productionization.
- Experience defining standards for testing, monitoring, and alerting and overseeing complex incident management.
- Experience creating organization-wide frameworks that improve developer velocity and reduce technical debt.
- Experience building developer tools, SDKs, and abstractions, including streaming systems with Flink or Kafka.
- Proficiency with GCP and Kubernetes at massive global scale.
- Ability to balance near-term execution with durable engineering artifacts that improve reliability.
- Experience serving as a technical representative and brand ambassador to internal and external technical communities.

- Base salary range of USD $267,000 to USD $297,000 per year for Sunnyvale, California-based roles.
