Base Salary
$170k - $290k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own Render’s core compute infrastructure across multiple cloud providers, regions, and data centers.
- Design and build capabilities that improve service performance, flexibility, deployment, and availability during underlying resource failures.
- Investigate cloud and compute issues across the kernel, data plane, Kubernetes clusters, control plane, and orchestration mechanisms.
- Improve infrastructure performance and reliability through profiling, experimentation, and tuning.
- Partner with engineers across the company to build a stable, predictable, and secure platform.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and improve incident detection, response, and learning.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience building and operating large-scale platform or compute infrastructure.
- Deep expertise operating, scaling, and enhancing Kubernetes clusters or similar resource and container orchestration systems.
- Experience developing custom infrastructure components, scheduling systems, and controllers in Go, Rust, or similar languages.
- Ability to make broad and deep systems tradeoffs to improve performance and efficiency without sacrificing reliability.
- Strong experience designing, debugging, and operating distributed systems.
- Experience planning and executing rapid, high-risk upgrades and changes with minimal downtime to user services.
- Preferred experience with virtualization technologies such as Firecracker, gVisor, Kata, or similar.
- Preferred experience optimizing node, pod, and container spin-up times.
- Preferred familiarity with eBPF, Linux kernel internals, and resource management.
- Preferred experience securing and isolating workloads in multi-tenant execution environments.
