Responsibilities
- Build and maintain backend services and APIs using Ruby on Rails.
- Build and maintain frontend applications using React, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript.
- Design and develop integrations with other applications and services.
- Work with databases and SQL for development and troubleshooting.
- Use Kafka or other messaging and event-driven systems where appropriate.
- Participate in technical design and application architecture decisions.
- Write unit and integration tests and maintain automated test coverage.
- Review code and provide feedback to other engineers.
- Investigate and resolve production issues.
- Participate in deployments, monitoring, on-call rotation, and ongoing production support.
- Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to turn requirements into working software.
- Document technical decisions, APIs, and system behavior.
- Improve development practices, tooling, and engineering processes.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and production experience with React.
- Good understanding of Ruby, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript.
- Experience building and consuming APIs, working with SQL and relational databases, and writing automated tests.
- Experience with Git and modern software development practices.
- Experience troubleshooting and supporting production applications.
- Ability to own work from design through implementation and production.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Healthcare or healthcare technology experience is preferred.
- Experience with FHIR, HL7v2, C-CDA, Mirth Connect, EHR/EMR systems, Kafka, AWS, Azure, GCP, Docker, or Kubernetes is preferred.
- Experience with healthcare data privacy and security, including HIPAA, is preferred.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor is preferred.
