Senior Backend Engineer, Core APIs (SRE Focus)

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize high-performance backend systems, APIs, real-time data processing services, and web services.
- Define and own SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and reliability tradeoffs for Core API services.
- Build observability through metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing, dashboards, and actionable alerts.
- Participate in shared on-call rotations, respond to incidents, and lead blameless postmortems.
- Automate recurring operational work, resolve incident action items, and reduce operational toil.
- Conduct capacity planning, load testing, performance tuning, and deep technical investigations.
- Integrate backend components with other services and collaborate on cross-functional engineering projects.
- Mentor developers and promote reliability-focused engineering practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend development experience, including meaningful experience operating production systems.
- Formal SRE experience with error-budget policies, capacity models, production-readiness reviews, and chaos or fault-injection testing.
- Strong experience with Go and/or Node.js and scalable backend system design.
- Experience building APIs, real-time data processing systems, and microservices.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes for production services.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
- Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, including service instrumentation, dashboards, monitoring, logging, and tracing.
- Experience participating in on-call rotations, triaging incidents, mitigating impact, and documenting outcomes.
- Strong SQL knowledge and experience with DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch.
- Proficiency with Git, development environments, and shell scripting.
- Fluent English communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong interest in mentoring and developing junior team members.
- BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience is preferred.
- Experience with ClickHouse, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks is preferred.
- Experience with performance profiling, high-throughput cloud cost optimization, large open-source projects, both Node.js and Go, and Internet security and privacy mechanisms is preferred.
