Base Salary
$189k - $315k/yr
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and technical strategy for payroll calculation systems.
- Write critical production code and lead high-impact technical initiatives.
- Design configurable, versioned, testable, explainable, scalable, and debuggable payroll logic frameworks.
- Leverage AI to improve payroll logic development, validation, explanation, and operations while preserving accuracy and auditability.
- Build systems for enterprise-scale payroll involving complex legal-entity structures and approval workflows.
- Expand native payroll capabilities across countries and jurisdictions.
- Improve distributed systems, database performance, caching, reliability, and operability.
- Partner with product, design, payroll operations, HRIS, and engineering teams to deliver customer outcomes.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers across payroll calculation domains.
Requirements
- Staff-level experience designing and scaling complex production systems where correctness and auditability are critical.
- Strong fundamentals in architecture, data modeling, distributed systems, databases, caching, and reliability.
- Demonstrated ability to set technical direction and lead complex initiatives across multiple teams.
- Strong product judgment and ability to connect platform decisions to customer outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to align engineering, product, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and requirements.
- Payroll experience is helpful but not required; experience in other high-integrity domains is valued.
