Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and evolution of self-service campaign tools for PayPal and Venmo marketers.
- Set technical direction, lead large-scale projects, coordinate engineering efforts, and align teams toward shared objectives.
- Drive architectural decisions and establish coding, design, review, and long-term technical standards.
- Partner with backend, platform, infrastructure, and product teams on scalable end-to-end solutions.
- Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and day-to-day technical problem solving.
- Resolve complex technical challenges while balancing performance, scalability, maintainability, reliability, and risk.
- Represent PayPal with external partners, customers, industry organizations, and developer communities.
- Coordinate other engineers, determine technical tasks, improve processes, and reconcile competing priorities.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred: 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Deep expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, and React, including front-end architecture, component frameworks, build systems, and packaging.
- Understanding of backend systems and API integration patterns and the ability to collaborate with backend teams.
- Ability to influence architecture decisions, build consensus, and drive alignment across diverse teams.
- Demonstrated success mentoring engineers and improving team performance through guidance and technical leadership.
- Sound judgment in ambiguous or high-stakes technical situations and the ability to balance competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

- Expected base pay for San Jose, California is $176,500.00-$262,350.00 annually, with possible additional performance bonus, equity, or incentive compensation.
