Responsibilities
- Embed with business teams and customers to understand workflows, identify valuable problems, and create technical plans.
- Own complex initiatives from discovery and prototyping through production deployment, adoption, and continuous improvement.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support reliable solutions at Walmart scale.
- Build and productionize AI-native solutions using LLMs, agentic workflows, RAG, and semantic search with evaluation, security, governance, and observability.
- Create reusable architectures, components, and engineering standards across engagements.
- Shape product and engineering roadmaps based on customer and field insights.
- Lead architecture decisions, improve engineering quality, and mentor engineers across teams without direct authority.
- Balance speed, quality, cost, sustainability, and measurable customer and business outcomes.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience designing and developing scalable applications, platforms, or distributed systems.
- Strong hands-on system design, architecture, prototyping, and technical solution validation experience.
- Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams and conducting architecture, design, and code reviews.
- Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and design patterns.
- Hands-on experience with backend, frontend, cloud, distributed technologies, RESTful services, microservices, APIs, messaging systems, and data platforms.
- Experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD technologies, observability, reliability, performance, security, and production operations.
- Experience applying AI/ML, GenAI, LLMs, RAG, Agentic AI, or AI-assisted development is highly valuable.
- Ability to influence, build consensus, communicate, collaborate, adopt emerging technologies, and drive change without direct authority.
- Strong customer and business orientation; retail domain knowledge is an advantage.
- Minimum qualification may be met with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus 4 years of software engineering experience, or 6 years of software engineering experience.
- Preferred qualification is a relevant master’s degree plus 2 years of software engineering experience.
