$143k - $275k/yr
Responsibilities
- Investigate ambiguous problems and rapidly develop working models of unfamiliar codebases.
- Own technical outcomes for strategic projects from problem framing through deployment and measured impact.
- Diagnose and resolve latency, scalability, reliability, and cost issues in always-on distributed services.
- Improve resilience, observability, and incident readiness, including serving as a Designated Responsible Individual when required.
- Align partner teams, negotiate dependencies, and deliver changes across repositories and service boundaries without direct authority.
- Represent technical decisions to executives and engineering stakeholders while clearly explaining tradeoffs.
- Mentor senior and principal engineers and review designs across the organization.
- Create reusable engineering patterns, documentation, and operational playbooks.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
- Experience providing technical leadership on complex distributed systems through influence rather than authority.
- Depth in designing and coding with C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, Rust, or a comparable language.
- Strong distributed-systems fundamentals involving high-scale, low-latency, always-on, cost-efficient services.
- Demonstrated production performance engineering experience diagnosing and fixing performance and cost problems.
- Excellent cross-group influence and written and verbal communication, including communicating impact to executive audiences.
- Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud and other applicable security screening requirements.
- Preferred: master's degree with 8+ years of experience, or bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: ownership of architecture for a significant service or platform component, experience building reliable and resilient services, and experience with large-scale modernization, developer productivity, or compliance-constrained engineering.
Benefits
- The typical U.S. base pay range is USD $142,800-$274,800 per year, with a separate range for specified San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area locations.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
- The position is open for a minimum of 5 days and accepts applications on an ongoing basis until filled.
