Base Salary
$79k - $210k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build hypervisor and host-side software for secure, isolated multi-tenant virtual machines.
- Enable and optimize OCI compute platforms across Intel, AMD, and Arm hardware.
- Develop live-migration capabilities and minimize disruption during maintenance and hardware lifecycle events.
- Design fault-tolerant systems supporting in-service updates, automatic recovery, safe rollback, and high availability.
- Investigate issues spanning hypervisor software, guest VMs, host operating systems, hardware, networking, and storage.
- Build automated validation, performance, stress, fault-injection, and compatibility testing.
- Instrument services with telemetry, dashboards, alerts, and runbooks for operational diagnosis and recovery.
- Participate in operational support, incident response, root-cause analysis, and follow-up improvements.
- Develop workload-isolation and platform-integrity protections, including hardened firmware and Shielded Instances.
- Build tooling and automation for deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, configuration management, and safe rollouts.
- Collaborate with hardware vendors and partner engineering teams to qualify server platforms and deliver compute features.
- Document designs and procedures, share knowledge, and deliver work with increasing independence.
Requirements
- Experience with systems programming, operating systems, virtualization, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or performance engineering is especially relevant.
- Ability to work on problems involving CPU virtualization, memory management, device emulation, networking, storage, observability, and fault recovery.
- Ability to balance correctness, performance, security, availability, operational commitments, technical debt, and customer impact.
- Ability to collaborate with hardware vendors and partner engineering teams on new server platforms.
- Ability to participate in operational support rotations, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
