Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own core components of the robotics simulation stack as a founding member of the Simulation team.
  • Develop hardware abstraction layers connecting sensors, actuators, and physical hardware to simulation environments.
  • Develop and integrate physics simulators focused on fidelity, performance, and sim-to-real transfer.
  • Build and maintain high-fidelity robot models covering kinematics, dynamics, mass properties, actuators, transmissions, and contact behavior.
  • Build automated pipelines from hardware design through robot modeling and system identification.
  • Use simulation to train reinforcement-learning policies, generate synthetic data, and evaluate end-to-end models.
  • Evaluate robot designs through trade studies involving actuator sizing, link geometry, range of motion, and sensor placement.
  • Validate simulation models against physical hardware data and improve fidelity where simulation and reality diverge.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience in robotics, simulation, or an adjacent industry, or a PhD in robotics or computer science.
  • Strong proficiency in modern C++ and Python.
  • Experience with a major robotics physics simulator such as MuJoCo, Isaac Sim, or Gazebo.
  • Experience building rigid-body robot models using formats such as URDF, MJCF, or USD.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and compute at scale.
  • Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD, Jira or an equivalent tool, and feature branching.
  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in robotics, computer science, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Ability to collaborate across hardware and software teams, translate between technical vocabularies, and independently drive ambiguous problems to solutions.
  • Experience with humanoid or legged robots, CAD-to-simulation pipelines, system identification, parameter estimation, mechanical engineering or mechatronics, advanced simulation or robot-modeling research, or using simulation to train and evaluate policies is preferred.

Benefits

  • Fully remote work is available, with an option to work hybrid from a commutable distance to the Salem, Oregon; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; or Fremont, California offices.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% company match, company stock options, and company-paid medical, dental, vision, and short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Benefits begin on the first day of employment.
  • Employee Assistance Program, flexible work arrangements, professional development, and tuition reimbursement.
  • Exempt employees receive flexible unlimited PTO and 12 company holidays including a winter shutdown; non-exempt employees receive 10 vacation days, paid sick leave, and 12 company holidays including a winter shutdown.
  • Catered lunches four times per week and snacks are available at the Salem and Pittsburgh offices.
  • Paid parental leave and relocation assistance for eligible roles.
