Responsibilities
- Own architecture across the full migration pipeline, including extraction, transformation, and orchestration.
- Translate technical strategy into platform increments and contribute code as a hands-on technical lead.
- Analyze CARET Legal’s data model and source application systems to support accurate, traceable migrations.
- Build reliable migration workflows, transformation libraries, assessment automation, and repeatable go-live patterns.
- Partner with the technical product manager on roadmap priorities, scope, sequencing, and delivery tradeoffs.
- Lead the engineering team, establish a high technical bar, and maintain clear documentation and handoff practices.
- Apply AI to migration assessment, mapping, validation, and engineering workflows where it improves speed, quality, and scalability.
- Serve as the technical point of contact for operations, migrations, and customer delivery needs.
Requirements
- 8+ years building data-intensive backend systems, including experience leading architecture across a team.
- Ability to reverse engineer application systems through forensic analysis of underlying data structures and storage.
- Deep experience with reliable data pipelines and ETL/ELT systems, including extraction, change data capture, transformation, and orchestration at scale.
- Hands-on experience with SQL, a transformation framework such as dbt, and cloud orchestration such as Microsoft Fabric or Azure Data Factory.
- Strong focus on correctness, observability, traceability, data quality, lineage, and edge-case handling.
- Ability to set technical direction, raise engineering standards, and contribute code as a hands-on technical lead.
- Pragmatic judgment about scope and sequencing, including applying AI and automation where they provide durable value.
- Experience leading data migration or system-to-system consolidation initiatives is preferred.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS applications and systems is preferred.
- Experience in legal, fintech, healthcare, or another domain requiring correctness, confidentiality, and compliance is preferred.
- Experience building a new platform or team from the ground up is preferred.
- Experience applying AI or LLMs to data mapping, assessment, or transformation is preferred.
