Base Salary

$114k - $228k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend microservices and APIs for real-time biosensor data processing.
  • Build Java Spring Boot services with RESTful API design, dependency injection, Spring Security, and modular service architecture.
  • Implement event-driven integrations using Kafka and RabbitMQ and contribute to analytics pipelines.
  • Collaborate with SRE on observability, performance, operational excellence, incident response, and post-mortem analysis.
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews covering service boundaries, data models, and communication patterns.
  • Optimize services for low latency, high throughput, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Apply privacy-by-design and secure coding practices aligned with HIPAA and GDPR requirements.
  • Write maintainable, testable code and uphold engineering standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 9 years of experience with distributed, cloud-native systems.
  • Strong microservices architecture and REST API design skills; GraphQL or gRPC familiarity is a plus.
  • Production experience with Kubernetes and familiarity with service mesh concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Strong Java and Spring Boot production experience, including RESTful API development, dependency injection, and Spring ecosystem tooling.
  • Familiarity with Kotlin or Python is a plus.
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices and HIPAA, GDPR, or similar compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of performance optimization, scalability patterns, and asynchronous data processing.
  • Experience integrating backend services with analytics and machine learning pipelines is preferred.
  • Exposure to API gateways, authentication and authorization patterns, and rate limiting strategies is preferred.
  • Background in digital health, IoT, or mission-critical platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Azure, AWS, or GCP and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Helm is preferred.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional work with engineering and product teams.
