Responsibilities
- Provide architectural oversight and review designs for services, APIs, and data flows.
- Make trade-offs among performance, reliability, and speed to market.
- Define and enforce coding standards, design patterns, reliability practices, and engineering best practices.
- Mentor engineers on system design, code quality, and operational excellence.
- Design and implement robust, scalable, secure backend services using Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, Golang, or similar technologies.
- Ensure services meet high-availability, fault-tolerance, and low-latency requirements.
- Embed OpenTelemetry observability into platform design.
- Drive platform engineering, developer productivity tooling, CI/CD pipelines, and service mesh implementations.
- Define standards for coding, reliability, scalability, and AI-driven developer productivity.
- Ensure services follow security, compliance, and data-privacy standards.
- Troubleshoot production issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement.
- Own and evolve the team’s technical roadmap while mentoring and developing engineering teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 8–14 years of backend development experience, including at least three years in a leadership or senior architect role.
- Strong experience building backend services with Java, Spring Boot, or Node.js; full-stack experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases including MySQL and PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases including Redis and MongoDB.
- Working knowledge of frontend ecosystems including Native, React, React Native, and Flutter for backend–UI integration.
- Strong expertise with OAuth2 and OIDC authentication protocols.
- Experience with Kafka and GCP Pub/Sub event systems.
- Experience with Istio and Linkerd service mesh technologies and cloud-native API gateway architectures.
- Hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, ELK, or similar observability tooling.
- Excellent debugging skills for diagnosing complex distributed-system issues.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow engineering teams.
- E-commerce and travel-domain experience is a plus.
- Startup experience is strongly preferred.
