Base Salary
$248k - $310k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the long-term vision, strategy, and architectural direction for the Trust Platform.
- Build and improve foundational systems supporting scalable fraud, safety, and trust decisioning across Airbnb.
- Develop build systems, performance tooling, observability, SLOs, incident response, resilience patterns, and developer experience tooling.
- Use AI-assisted development workflows, including LLM-powered agents, while maintaining system design and code-quality oversight.
- Partner with technical leaders, product managers, operations, data scientists, and Trust defense and ML teams on platform capabilities and fraud threats.
- Lead and mentor engineers across teams and raise the technical bar across the trust engineering organization.
Requirements
- 12+ years of backend and platform engineering experience designing, building, and operating mission-critical distributed systems at scale.
- BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience guiding multi-year technical roadmaps across multiple sub-teams and influencing without formal authority.
- Exceptional communication skills with senior engineers, cross-functional leaders, executives, and broader engineering communities.
- Deep experience with observability, SLOs, incident response, resilience patterns, circuit breakers, graceful degradation, and chaos testing.
- Hands-on experience with modern languages such as Kotlin, Java, or Scala.
- Experience with AI-assisted development workflows, including LLMs and code generation.
- Experience building developer experience and tooling is preferred.
- Experience in the Trust and Risk domain is preferred.
