Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of complex Android applications and shared mobile platform components, including SDKs, libraries, and tooling.
- Define Android architecture standards using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines/Flow, MVVM/MVI, and modularization.
- Own large initiatives from concept through production, including architecture, coding, testing, CI/CD, release management, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Optimize application startup time, ANRs, crash-free sessions, performance, reliability, scalability, and build processes.
- Partner with backend teams on efficient mobile APIs and offline-first solutions.
- Lead the migration from React Native to fully native Android, including migration sequencing, architecture decisions, bridging, and feature-parity planning.
- Champion automated testing, code quality, secure mobile development, observability, crash analytics, and performance monitoring.
- Integrate on-device and cloud-powered AI/ML capabilities into Android applications.
- Mentor senior engineers, provide architectural guidance, and lead design reviews across mobile, backend, and product teams.
- Translate complex business problems into scalable technical solutions for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong Android development expertise.
- Deep proficiency in Kotlin and modern Android frameworks, with Jetpack Compose preferred.
- Working knowledge of React Native sufficient to assess existing code, plan a native migration, and bridge React Native with native modules.
- Strong experience with mobile architecture patterns, modularization, and large-scale app development.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Gradle optimization, and mobile observability tools.
- Understanding of API design, performance tuning, and secure mobile development.
- Proven technical leadership and cross-team influence.
- Strong collaboration skills across globally distributed engineering teams.
- Preferred experience leading or contributing to a React Native-to-native migration in a production consumer application.
- Preferred experience in consumer health, digital health, or regulated industries.
- Preferred experience with GraphQL and AI/ML integration in Android applications.
- Preferred familiarity with Bluetooth Low Energy protocols and mobile SDK integration for wearable or connected health devices.
- Preferred experience building shared Android platform components, SDKs, or libraries for other engineering teams.
