Base Salary
$140k - $180k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own Linux performance analysis and tuning across CPU scheduling, NUMA, memory, page cache, disk, filesystem, and network behavior.
- Lead production incident troubleshooting, write postmortems, organize follow-up work, and prevent recurring issues.
- Author and maintain declarative configuration management code using Salt, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
- Build, deploy, and operate containerized services on Kubernetes or Nomad.
- Automate operational work using Bash and Python.
- Operate DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP networking, VLANs, routing, and TLS services.
- Configure and troubleshoot Nginx and HAProxy, including routing, TLS termination, health checks, and connection handling.
- Support Redis and RabbitMQ in production.
- Provision and maintain virtual machines across VMware, Xen, or KVM, including capacity planning, host maintenance, and live migration.
- Manage Vault secrets, dynamic credentials, policies, and rotation.
- Own Elastic Stack log aggregation and Nagios, CheckMK, or Icinga alerting.
- Use Git, pull requests, peer review, runbooks, design proposals, and incident write-ups as part of daily work.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in Linux systems, infrastructure, or SRE roles.
- Expert Linux knowledge, including performance analysis, processes and signals, systemd, cgroups, namespaces, filesystems, memory exhaustion, and file descriptors.
- Production-scale experience authoring and maintaining Salt, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet configuration management code.
- Production experience with Kubernetes or Nomad, including scheduling, resource pressure, rollouts, and workload debugging.
- Strong Bash skills and working Python knowledge.
- Foundational networking expertise across VLANs, routing, DNS, DHCP, TCP behavior, and TLS.
- Experience with Nginx or HAProxy and at least one of VMware, Xen, or KVM.
- Daily experience with Git and peer review.
- Excellent written communication for runbooks, design proposals, and incident write-ups.
- Preferred: primary production ownership of Redis or RabbitMQ.
- Preferred: Vault administration, including policies, authentication methods, and rotation at scale.
- Preferred: Elastic Stack operations, including index lifecycle, mappings, and cluster tuning.
- Preferred: regulated or revenue-critical environments and colocation or bare-metal operations.
