Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack
Toast, Inc.Responsibilities
- Design and implement full-stack features across backend financial-data synchronization services and merchant-facing setup and mapping interfaces.
- Build and maintain Java and Kotlin services that synchronize sales, payments, payouts, invoices, and journal entries with external accounting platforms.
- Integrate third-party accounting APIs and internal systems while handling authentication, rate limits, retries, and idempotency.
- Develop performant and usable React and TypeScript frontend features for restaurant and retail operators.
- Deploy and operate services on AWS, monitor sync health and data accuracy, and troubleshoot production issues.
- Use AI-assisted tools for coding, testing, debugging, and documentation, and help ship AI-powered product capabilities.
- Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, Fintech, and partner teams to deliver working software.
- Write maintainable, testable code, participate in reviews, support on-call and root-cause analysis, and own features end-to-end.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 6–9 years of experience in software or full-stack development.
- Strong Java backend experience and hands-on Kotlin experience or willingness to become productive in Kotlin quickly.
- Strong React or Angular frontend experience with TypeScript or JavaScript.
- Experience building and consuming APIs and integrating third-party systems.
- Hands-on cloud experience, preferably AWS, including services such as ECS/EKS, Lambda, SQS/SNS, S3, and RDS/DynamoDB.
- Regular practical use of AI coding assistants and ability to review and validate AI-generated code.
- Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design and query tuning.
- Familiarity with Gradle or Maven, Git, and modern branching workflows.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams, with strong problem-solving, code-quality, data-correctness, and communication skills.
- Preferred experience with QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Restaurant365, accounting concepts, LLM APIs, prompt design, RAG, agentic workflows, Kafka, resilient data synchronization, Terraform, CDK, Docker, Kubernetes, fintech, payments, retail, POS, or large-scale SaaS.
