Base Salary

$119k - $206k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver cryptographic services and libraries for encryption, digital signatures, and key management.
  • Build public-key cryptography systems using RSA, ECC, and DSA for secure transactions, identity, and communications.
  • Develop PKI infrastructure, certificate lifecycle management, and trust frameworks.
  • Integrate cryptographic capabilities into Java services using JCA/JCE and hardware-backed security modules.
  • Lead and participate in threat modeling, security reviews, and cryptographic design validation.
  • Improve the performance, scalability, and resilience of cryptographic operations in high-throughput environments.
  • Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, and security teams to strengthen eBay’s security posture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Typically 7+ years of software engineering experience focused on security and cryptography.
  • Hands-on production experience with RSA, ECC, DSA, digital signatures, and related cryptographic algorithms and protocols.
  • Strong understanding of PKI, certificate management, and trust models in large-scale distributed environments.
  • Proficiency in Java, including JCA/JCE or secure J2EE-based applications integrating cryptographic services.
  • Experience implementing or integrating key management standards and interfaces such as PKCS#11 and KMIP.
  • Familiarity with secure coding practices and common cryptographic pitfalls.
  • Ability to work from the San Jose office in a hybrid or onsite model and collaborate across security, platform, and infrastructure teams.
