Base Salary
$250k - $300k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own backend architecture across multiple services and team boundaries from design through implementation.
- Write production code daily and establish standards for quality, reliability, and engineering practices.
- Partner with engineering leads and product managers to scope large initiatives and define completion criteria.
- Improve platform scalability, performance, and reliability as the product grows.
- Identify and resolve technical debt across teams.
- Build security and observability into systems from the outset.
- Develop instrumentation, pipelines, and tooling that generate meaningful insights for organizers and the business.
- Mentor engineers across levels through design discussions, reviews, and direct coaching.
- Participate in technical interviews and hiring calibration.
Requirements
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including experience as a Staff, Principal, or technical lead.
- Experience designing and delivering systems spanning multiple services or teams with clear ownership of outcomes.
- Deep expertise in backend systems, APIs, data modeling, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture, with strong full-stack working knowledge.
- Proficiency with relevant technologies such as Java, Node.js, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and AWS or similar cloud providers.
- Experience scaling production platforms operationally, handling incidents, and evolving architecture under load.
- Ability to evaluate technology tradeoffs and communicate them clearly to technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards.
- Experience at a consumer, social, or marketplace company is a plus.
